Divine Mentor: Reading God's Word- Debbie McGrath

Rest - Genesis 2:3

Today is January 1, 2015 and as most daily bible reading plans start in Genesis 1&2.
Many of us can't count how many times we have read the entire book of Genesis and quit reading thru our bibles when we get to Numbers. This year, I have made a commitment to read thru God's Word as I have done the past several years.  There is nothing more rewarding than sitting at the feet of the Savior.  We live in a world full of chaos and uncertainty but when I breathe in God's word, I am reminded He sits on the throne and He is in control.

As I was mediating on the Word,  I got to Genesis 2:3 - I saw the word rested - God rested from all his work of creation.  And I thought - what does Rest mean to me?

How would I describe a perfect day of Rest?
Spending time in the Word of God.
                                Journaling thru God's Word.
Being refreshed and nourished by His Word.
                                Praying thru the scriptures.
Worshipping God thru scriptures and song.
                                Fellowshipping with other believers.

As I listed my perfect day of Rest - I long to be in the throne room of Heaven where I will experience eternal rest - Worshipping my Savior.

What would your perfect day of Rest look like??

Divine Mentor: Names of Christ: by Debbie McGrath

Reading for Today: Revelation 1-4.

Lately, I have been caught up in the hustle and bustle of Christmas and have missed my time in the Word.  This morning I knew nothing would stop me from being in the Word.  As Revelation states, when you read the Words of Christ you are blessed.

When I read these 4 chapters, I quickly noticed all the names of Christ.  These names reveal the majesty, the power and the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ.  I have listed them (may have missed some), and I mediated on each name and what it meant to me. Which one speaks to you???

1:4     The One who is, who was and who is coming.
1:5     Faithful Witness
1:5     First-born from the dead
1:5     Ruler of the kings of the earth
1:8    The Alpha and the Omega
1:8    The Almighty
1:17  The First and the Last
2:1    The Living One
2:18  Son of God
3:7    Holy One
3:7    True One
3:14  The Amen
3:14  The Faithful
3:14  True Witness
3:14  Originator of God's creation
4:9    One seated on the throne, the One who lives forever and ever

Divine Mentor: Distractions by Debbie McGrath

Today's Reading: PSALM 124 and 2 CORINTHIANS 11-13

Spending time in God's Word every day can be challenging - thanks to Satan and many distractions we face each day. This morning, I got up with the best intention to spend time with my Father. But instead of going straight to the Word - I checked a few emails.  Of course there was an email that required immediate attention.  Next, my 4 dogs decided it was time to go out and be fed.  While my dogs were outside,  I checked my Facebook.  While looking at everyone's post it hit me -- I am so distracted!!!

I only have so much time in the morning to spend in the Word and I must be singled-minded.  The Holy Spirit convicted my heart and I immediately closed my computer and ask God to keep me focused.

2 Corinthians 13:5 says Jesus Christ is in YOU!!  I love this verse.  Wow - Jesus is in me!!  When I read this, I knew Jesus was waiting on me this morning - He had something to tell me- He wanted to bless me thru His Word.

I know as a mother, when I don't get to speak to my daughter - I really miss her.  It is no different for my Father, Creator in Heaven - when I don't spend time with Him - his heart weeps.

I encourage you to spend time with God today.  Our God sits at the throne - waiting to bless us and share His truth's with us.

Divine Mentor - Talking Jesus - Debbie McGrath

Today's Reading:
Isaiah 60-62, John 1

In John 1:35-40 -

We learn that Andrew and John were disciples of John the Baptist.
As soon as Jesus, the Lamb of God, appears on the scene Andrew and John spent the day with Jesus.  Can you imagine the questions they had for Jesus or do you think they sat amazed and silent hanging on to every word of the Savior? It is obvious, the time spent with Jesus changed their lives. They were so excited about meeting Jesus they went and found their brothers and brought them to Jesus.  Andrew brought Simon to Jesus who later became Peter.
John brought his brother James to Jesus.

In the scriptures, Andrew never wrote a book or preached a huge sermon but he faithfully brought others to Christ. Andrew did what we are called to do.
Every Christian is called to go and make disciples of all nations.

Do I have the zeal and excitement Andrew did about my relationship with Christ?

Today - who will I reach out to and tell them about my Savior?
