Today's Reading: Leviticus 15-16; Acts 18
Scripture: Leviticus 16:34b: " Atonement is to be made once a year for all the sins of the Israelites."
Observation:
I love Leviticus because it is such a beautiful picture of what Jesus did for us. Animal sacrifices had to be made once every year, because the blood of a bull or a goat couldn't permanently take away sin. Hebrews 8:12 tells us that "with His own blood, He (Jesus) entered the Most Holy Place
once for all ...". He was the final sacrifice for our sin.
Application:
There is nothing we can do to be right with God- no rituals, no religious practices, no sacrifices of time or money. Do we really believe that, or are we constantly trying to " be good for God"? Just as God provided a way for the sins of the Israelites to be forgiven each year, He has provided a way for ours to be forgiven permanently. That way is Jesus.
Prayer:
Thank you, Jesus, for being the final sacrifice for my sin. Lead me to others who are trying to "earn" God's favor- they need to know it can't be done. Amen.
